Understand the user
Human oversight, explainability and safe intervention. The interface should reflect how people interpret information, recognise risk and decide what to do next.
Autonomous systems need understandable operator controls and oversight.
All case studiesOriginal explanatory visualisation created for this portfolio. It illustrates design thinking, not a reproduction of a confidential client screen.
As autonomy increases, the operator experience must communicate system intent, uncertainty and the boundaries of delegated action. Poorly designed oversight can make intervention harder rather than easier.
This was proposal-stage UX architecture work exploring governed autonomy, operator-centred interaction and decision visibility. It was not a production deployment.
A simplified conceptual model to explain the experience principles. It is not presented as a historical project deliverable.
The conceptual design direction distinguishes machine recommendations from human authority, with attention to traceability, intervention and situational awareness.
Confidential proposal support only. No contract award, deployed product or direct NATO client engagement is claimed.
My public case studies focus on the problem, experience rationale and transferable lessons. Detailed discovery findings, artefacts and individual attribution will be added where evidence and permissions allow.
Explore more workThe interesting question in autonomous systems is not whether software can make a decision. It is whether an operator can understand what the system is doing, know when to intervene and retain responsibility.
I explored operator-centred interaction patterns for decision visibility, human intervention, authority boundaries and traceability as part of a proposal and architecture exercise.
Conceptual experience sequence created for this portfolio, not a client-approved deliverable.
This reinforced my view that the handoff between human and machine is a design problem in its own right.
How can operators understand and govern delegated machine decisions?
Human oversight, explainability and safe intervention. The interface should reflect how people interpret information, recognise risk and decide what to do next.
Decision visibility, authority boundaries and traceable actions. This is an interpretation of the design approach rather than a claim that every technique was used in a documented research session.
A proposal-stage framework for governed autonomy, not a deployed system. The experience should help people understand the state of the system and retain meaningful control.
Portfolio-created framework illustrating the design rationale. Not an original or approved client deliverable.
